CHRISTMAS   IN   BOLIVIA AND PARAGUAY

DECEMBER  17  - 31ST  2005

PURPOSE:

  • To encourage Camp Kewina national staff leadership
  • To reach out to the village children with the gospel through a special Christmas party.
  • To create a micro economic development weaving project in Candelaria.
  • To provide a medical mission at the clinic in Candelaria
  • To continue the relationship MPC has developed through the past 21 years.
  • To encourage Paul and Becky Dreiling in their ministry in Paraguay

SCOPE:

December at Camp Kewina is the busiest month of the year for scheduled camps.  We want to support the staff there during a camp by helping with any detail that will aid them…even if it is washing dishes or helping with the cooking.  We would like to do a work project there at this time too.  We will pray with them and encourage each staff person.

The Wetzels and Stewarts started the tradition of a Christmas party for the Candelaria children.  We want to go and continue this tradition.  We want to fund it as we did this past year and be there to reach out to each child.  This will be a wonderful opportunity to present the gospel through drama and/or music.

Beside the party, an outreach has also happened for the “poorest of the poor” children who are orphans or in a single parent household.  Clothing and food items have been given to them.  We will take clothing with us and assist camp staff as they give.

Initial steps have been taken to develop a weaving micro-economic development project with the women in Candelaria.  We want to spur this on working with Sara who lives at camp and know the weaving women through the local church in Candelaria.  We want to assess the quality of their work and determine what products they can make that will have a market in the US…specifically at the festivals in Black Mountain.

This past year a medical clinic has opened in Candelaria.  Sara from Camp Kewina works there.  We would like to either plan for a medical/dental mission at the clinic or actually have a week’s clinic while we are there.

Paul and Becky Dreiling have not been visited by MPC.   We would like to come along side them and encourage them.  Also do a short term project for them.   2-3 days.

COSTS:

We are anticipating approximately $1500 per person, which will include housing, food, transportation and supplies for projects.  If you are part of the Paraguay side trip you will need approximately $300 more.

LOCATIONS TO BE VISITED:

We will fly to Cochabamba where we will visit Viva Bolivia, a ministry that has an Internet market place for Bolivian products.  We will then travel out to Camp Kewina and Candelaria.

A side trip to Paraguay will  be either before or after the time in Bolivia.
